Hi folks. My blog is being turned “off” due to excessive comment spam, at the request of the manager of the server that my blog is being hosted on.
I am complying. Comments are now off (I’ve renamed the comment post script, and changed the default template to offer a crude way of still enabling you all to see my content, but not using any code of the blog), and most of the navigation doesn’t/won’t work.
The good news is, I’ll more be able to integrate my blog with the rest of the site now. The bad news is, it will develop slower. The good news is, it will be more of a Grunge CMS as I’ll be using parts of WordPress, but not the templates or commenting system. The bad news is, this will result in me far less likely contributing plugins or updates for WordPress like I was planning on. (I’ll still use WordPress on other sites, likely.)
The fact of the matter is that comment spam is a social phenomena, and we’re searching for a technological solution to a social phenomena, and that has never ever worked in the history of mankind – at least not in the long run, as far as I know. I’d say “leave me a comment” to reply to this – but you can’t (at least not through the default WordPress comment mechanism).
This will be my last post for a while. I have to deal with this messy situation, and I have to worry about the job hunt. Sorry.
